First all-undergraduate team among Olin Cup winners

Three teams — including the first all-undergraduate team to place — earned a total of $140,000 during the annual Olin Cup commercial business plan competition finals Jan. 30. One of the winning teams, MMBiosensing LLC (right), patented a new method of detecting heart attacks.

Campus Author: Why Worry? Stop Coping and Start Living

Kathryn Liszewski, a research scientist at the School of Medicine, has written Why Worry? Stop Coping and Start Living. The author, who overcame anxiety and panic attacks, is now helping others confront the problem. One in six Americans deals with excessive fear or anxiety.

Mark Smith expands role as new associate vice chancellor for students

Mark W. Smith, JD, assistant vice chancellor and director of the Career Center, has been promoted to associate vice chancellor for students and will continue as director of the Career Center. In his new role, he also will oversee the Office for International Students and Scholars.

Two faculty members — Julie K. Schwarz, MD, PhD, and Joseph L. Roti Roti, PhD — have received awards from the Radiation Research Society recognizing their contributions to research in the field and their service to the society.
